Ancient India (Kushan) - 'Cow and Siva' Tetradrachm of Vasudeva I (195-225AD)
Offered is a delightful ‘Cow and Siva’ type teradrachm issued by Vasudeva I (the last great Kushan Emperor) in 195-225AD, Mitchiner#3412var. Measuring 24mm in diameter, and weighing 8.8g, this chunky coin not only bears good detail, but also a lovely patina which lightens on the devices.
The obverse depicts Crowned, diademed king standing facing, nimbate, holding trident and sacrificing at altar at left, standard above altar, Bactrian legend around: þAONANOþAO BA ... ZOΔηO KOþANO (King of Kings Bazodeo Kushan). For its part, the reverse features a two-armed Shiva standing facing, holding trident and diadem, Bull Nandi left behind, Bactrian legend left: OηþO, tamgha at right.
In all, a fascinating and attractive Eastern ancient.
