Papal Bulla (Seal) of Pope Innocent IV - 1244-1254AD

€595.00

Offered is an exceedingly rare, and very collectable Papal Bulla, or lead seal of Pope Innocent IV (1243-1254). These seals were attached to Papal decrees to confirm their authenticity, and few have survived to today.

Innocent IV’s seal features Saints Paul and Peter on the obverse, along with the inscription ‘SPASPE,’ meaning ‘Sanctus Paulus Apostulus, Sanctus Petrus Episcopus.’ On the reverse, there appears the inscription ‘INNO / CENTVS / PP IIII.’ With excellent detail, and deep brown tone that highlights the devices, this bulla is an absolutely wonderful example.
