Offered is an appealing Mars type (PONTIF TRP X COS II) silver Denarius struck at Rome in 207AD under the reign of Emperor Caracalla, Sear#6862, RIC#88, BMCRE#265, RSC#431. Not only does this example feature a more unusal portrait of the Emperor surrounded by inscription ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, it retains a lovely, deep, original patina. Although admittedly circulated, this well-struck coin remains a great example of the type.
