Offered is a handsome silver Denarius struck at Antioch under the reign of Emperor Elagabalus in 218-19AD, Sear#7505, RIC#187, BCMRE#275, RSC#15. This piece depicts two standards between legionary eagles on vexilla, surrounded by the inscription CONCORDIA MILIT. A scarce type with interesting reference to Legio II Parthica (Parthian Legion) which was instrumental in both Elagabalus’ struggle against Macrinus, and ensuring regional stability through the ensuing 3rd century crisis. An atrractive coin, this is a solid example through and through.
