Offered is a scarce Pudicita-type (PVDICITA AVG) silver Antoninianus of Herennia Estruscilla (HER ETRVSCILLA AVG) - wife of Trajan Decius, struck at Rome in 250AD, Sear#9494 (var), RIC#58b, RSC#17, Hunter#4. This particular example is an interesting mule, combining the obverse type Aa (generally paired with Pudicita seated reverse) with the later Pudicita standing reverse - a sizeable proportion of the mintage appears to bear this combination, and so the argument could be made that it should in fact be considered a separate variant. Generally a well struck example on an exceptionally chunky planchet, this piece retains good detail and is most pleasing in hand.
