Ancient Eastern Byzantine Bronze Zoomorphic Finial, 7-9th c. AD

€295.00

Offered is an absolutely delightful 7-9th century AD bronze 6cm long finial or fitting depicting a highly stylised Egyptian goose. Bearing both byzantine and Sassanian influences, this refreshingly unrefined item exudes colloquial charm. Some encrustations near the base speak to the great length of time it remained interred, but this quickly yields to a rich, deep green and brown patina.

An easily mounted and exceedingly attractive piece, this finial would make an excellent desk piece as easily as it would an addition to a specialised near eastern ancient art.
