Offered is an interesting vertical pair of 5 Livre ‘Assignat’ notes, issued by the French Revolutionary government in the second year of the revolution (1793), Pick#A76, Lafaurie#171. These notes were issued during a period of incredible inflation in France, which was met generally not by the production of higher denominations, but rather the printing of ever more low-denomination notes. Interestingly, these notes bear 2 different signatures, and indeed, there were 10 signature variants for this issue, all being within the same sheet! Displaying some minor foxing commiserate with age, and re-backed, this charming pair remains most presentable indeed.
