Offered is a scarce 27mm (reduced size) brass Dupondius, truck in Rome and issued under the reign of Claudius in 42AD, SEAR#1856, RIC#110, BMCRE#140. This coin depicts Ceres enthroned, holding corn-ears and torch, surrounded by the inscription ‘CERES AVGVSTA / SC.’ The obverse depicts the bare-headed bust of the Emperor, surrounded by the inscription ‘TICLAVDIVSCAESARAVGPMTRPIMPPP.’
This example, although bearing pitted surfaces, retains decent detail, and represents an interesting transitional imperial denomination. A scarce piece which would be a great addition to any 12 Caesar, or specialized study alike!
