Victoria 1849 'Godless' Silver Florin

Offered is a handsome example of the ever-popular 1849 ‘Godless’ Florin (2/-), struck under the reign of Queen Victoria, KM#745. This type cause some controversy when issued owing to the omittance of ‘DEI GRATIA’ from her majesty’s obverse inscription. Today, we feel that this can be excused owing to the absolutely masterful rendition of the young Queen executed by William Wyon.

This example is not only problem-free, but also retains good detail, displaying only light, even wear on the high-points. What is more is that this piece benefits from an attractive gunmetal grey patina which darkens somewhat at the periphery to a light charcoal tone. In all, a very pleasing coin.
