Isle of Man 1758 Halfpenny

€125.00

Offered is a better-grade 1758 Halfpenny, issued by James Murray, Duke of Atholl for used on Man, CC#MHD-205, KM#6. This example not only retains considerable underlying lustre which at times peaks out from an even, silky patina, but also benefits from superior detail for a circulation strike of this issue (note that these were struck in problematic, soft copper, and as such display considerable weakness of strike). Interestingly, this example is also from a later die state, displaying the known obverse die crack. The condition of this piece overall is exceptional, being the nicest of this type that we have handled. A cracking example of a scarce issue.
