Canada 1930s Didsbury, AB Masonic Penny

€55.00

Offered is a rare 33mm 1930s Masonic Penny token, issued by Lodge 22 at Didsbury, Alberta. This example bears the ‘Every Man A Penny / Canada’ reverse common to many Canadian Masonic pieces, but unique ‘Sun and Rays’ obverse which symbolises this particular Lodge. Didsbury is a small settlement (with a population of a little over 5 000 today), and indeed, it seems that this Lodge 22 was shuttered, with the number today reassigned to an organization near Calgary. Thusly, it is easy to see how very few of these Pennies were produced, and indeed, this is the only example of this particular type that we have been able to trace.

This example shows virtually no wear (unlike many which were used as ‘pocket pieces’), and retains a lustrous red-brown patina which betrays some underlying flash in the fields. An attractive and rare Masonic Penny.
