Offered is a rare block of 6 1944 1p maroon stamps, being mint as issued (no gum), SG1. Prepared for the Indian National Army (Axis aligned) for use in Japanese occupied areas during the Drive on Imphal, the failure of the offensive meant that these saw very limited use. All items of this ‘Chalo Delhi’ type are scarce, but multiples are particularly so. A fresh and appealing block with good Second World War interest.
