Ipswich (Suffolk) 1795 Robert Mannings Conder 1/2d - D&H#34
Offered is a scarcer 1795 Halfpenny token, issued by Robert Mannings of Ipswich, D&H#34. Robert Manning (1745-1833) was a liquor merchant who operated primarily in and around Cornhill, Ipswich - the pub which he operated in the area (Manning’s Pub) is still in business. Robert stood several times for public office, eventually becoming Window Duty Surveyor for his constituency. This token represents his only Conder token, and indeed, one of the few issued for this area. All in all, a very solid example an interesting issue.
