London (Middlesex) 1794 Fowler's 1/2d Conder - D&H#306
Offered is an example of the curious 1794-issused Fowler’s Whale Fishery Halfpenny, D&H#306. Not much is known about the issuer, John Fowler, but we can ascertain that he was an oil merchant and tin plate worker with premises at 28 Long Acre, London. Although a whaling scene is depicted, Mr Fowler would have had both feet very much on dry land. Condition decent overall, being a wholesome example with deep-chocolate to ebony patina.
