London (Middlesex) 1795 Eaton 1/2d Conder - D+H#301

$70.00

Offered is a bold and attractive 1795 Halfpenny token issued to commemorate the acquittal of D I Eaton, D+H#301. This piece bears fantastic detail and original mahogany patina, displaying only the slightest hints of wear on the high points. Although generally well struck, this example bears a particularly well presented depiction of the allegorical ‘cock crowing over pigs in a sty’ reverse. It is interesting to note that Eaton (a radical publisher with links to American revolutionary thinking) would stand trial a total of 8 times for sedition before being convicted in 1812.

Obv: D.I. EATON THREE TIMES ACQUITTED OF SEDITION. / FRANGAS NON FIECTES
