Middlesex (London) ca 1820 Bengal Horse Artillery Farthing

€70.00

Offered is an interesting Farthing-size recruiting token, issued at London around 1820 by the Bengal Horse Artillery, raised by the East India Company, Pridmore#398. An act of parliament from 1799 allowed the EIC to recruit and train troops on British soil, and had centres at London, Liverpool, Dublin & Edinburgh. Interestingly, all directories put the London centre at 28 Soho Square, rather than 35, as indicated on the token. This example in lovely condition with an even, mahogany patina.
