Offered is a scarce 1813 Penny token, issued by the Glanclywedog Flanel Factory, under the management of Charles Cole, Withers#1330. These tokens, sunk by Thomas Halliday, were used in the renumeration of factory employees, but also used as part payment by the factory to suppliers in the surrounding community. Apparently these coppers were well received, and continued to circulate until 1818, when the majority were redeemed. This example very appealing for the type, bearing good remaining detail and a lovey mahogany patina.
Obv: GLANCLYWEDOG FACTORY / 1813
Rev: ONE POUND NOTE FOR 240 TOKENS / ONE PENNY TOKEN
Edge: Engrailed
