Australia - 1897 Brisbane Exhibition Silver Site Medal

$40.00

Offered is a charming and unusual 17mm 1897 silver Brisbane Exhibition, stuck at the exhibition mint. Although Australian exhibition medals of this period are not in themselves scarce, the souvenir pieces struck on site tend to be much scarcer by a several-fold factor. These are also known struck in bronze and gold, with the latter being institutional only.

This example in superb condition with original eyelet. PL devices and mirrored fields give way to abundant, warm tone, ranging from mauve to russet and right through to deep cobalt near the peripheries. A most attractive little piece.
