Britain 1850 British Archaeological Association Meeting Medal

€40.00

Offered is a handsome, 35mm bronze medal designed by William Joseph Taylor for the British Archaeological Association on the occasion of their 5th annual meeting at Manchester in 1850. These medals were produced in small quantities (the first medal in the series was only subscribed to by 69 members, who purchased a total of 86 medals, two of which were in silver), and offered to members of the association as well as select individuals at a rate of 7/6d each in bronze, 15/- in silver.

This high-relief medal displays great detail as well as clean fields, despite some reverse damage. The Manchester medal is one of the scarcer in the series, meaning that this type rarely comes to market. In all a scarce, well-designed medal of superior quality.
