Offered is a massive 81mm, 225g bronze medal, issued in 1869 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Imperial Saint Petersburg University, Dyakov#764.1, Smirnov#703. Designed by AA Semenov, this impressive piece was struck in minute quantities, being very highly rated in both references here presented. Indeed, we have only been able to track two other examples of this medal, with one being institutional (at the University), and the other (in better condition than this example) having traded hands for as much as 650 Euro + BP (2022).
Although this piece bears wear and contact marks consistent with having been a desk piece for many years, it retains all significant detail, and remains most appealing indeed. A rare medal of appealing design, and considerable thematic interest.
