Offered is a charming, 18mm silver medalet struck at the Philadelphia mint in 1862, being of the ‘second, re-cut portrait’ variant of this ever-popular ‘Born & Died’ type designed and sunk by Anthony C Paquet, MEDUS#609, Baker#155A, J-PR#26. This piece was issued as part of a series which were offered as souvenirs at the Mint, having originally been conceived to commemorate the opening of the Washington Mint Cabinet (a collection of medallic and numismatic depictions of the famed President displayed in the Mint Museum). This example, although tidily pierced (as many are), remains most appealing, with good detail and a deliate patina - a great value proposition as such!
