Offered is a wonderful, all-original manual-wind Longines Mainliner men’s wristwatch with rare centre-sweep seconds hand from ca 1945. With very good proportions for the period (40mm x 28mm), this unusual design represented a substantial step forward in terms of design when it appeared in the early 1940s, indeed setting the stage for the flashy and imaginative innovations for which the firm became known in the 1950s.
The condition is good used overall, with the 10k gold filled Wadsworth case showing some wear, but no signs of brassing or substantial damage. The dial is most appealing and untouched, displaying only some light tropicalization which lends much vintage charm. The quality Longines in-house 17 jewel movement is clean and keeping great time. This piece comes mounted on a vintage leather band with period-correct GF width adjusters, which serve to add even more presence to this attractive watch.
