Roman Empire - AE4 Of Valens (364-67AD)
Offered is a lovely example of a Siscia-minted AE4, issued under the reign of Valens, and dating from 364-67AD, RIC#7b.2. This example displays Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm, surrounded by the inscription ‘SECVRITASREIPVBLICAE,’ ‘SISC’ in exergue. The obverse bears the Emperor’s diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right, surrounded by inscription ‘DNVALENSPFAVG.’
This piece is well struck, and superbly centered on a regular flan. This fact, combined with the excellent remaining detail make this a well above average example, despite some roughness to the surfaces.
