Roman Empire - AR Siliqua of Arcadius (395-402AD)

$80.00

Offered is an attractive little silver Siliqua struck at Mediolanum (Milan) between 395 and 402AD, in the closing years of the Empire, RICK#32b. The obverse depicts the Emperor’s bust right, surrounded by the inscription ‘DNARCADIVSPFAVG.’ For its part, the reverse features Roma seated left, holding Victory on globe and spear, surrounded by the inscription ‘VIRTVSROMANORVM,’ and the mint mark ‘MDPS’ in exergue.

Although being a lightly clipped example, this piece retains very good detail, as well as attractive, problem-free surfaces - both of which can be tough asks on this issue. A lovely charcoal-grey patina lends further eye-appeal.
