Britain - 1897 Diamond Jubilee Medal by Grueber
Offered is a charming 1897 diamond jubilee 32mm medal by Henry A. Grueber. Many varieties and mules exist. Grueber was not held in high esteem by Forrer, who claims that his medals were "sold in the streets for a penny a piece" and that many were struck in papier mache with a layer of thin metal - this example entirely from copper. A popular type, and in excellent condition for this issue, which tends to be found worn, or otherwise sub-standard.
Obv: Crown over busts of four generations of the Royal Family in centre facing left, the Queen and her heirs in the next three generations. Starting right with Queen Victoria followed by Edward VII, George VI and a very young Edward VIII, silvering at the queen´s crown. Inscription: FOUR GENERATIONS OF THE - BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY / 10. SEP.95. H.GRUEBER. 1897 37 SNOWHILL LONDON E.C. / COPYRIGHT.
