Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Pay Check Token

$200.00
sold out

Offered is an exceedingly rare late 19th / early 20th century pay check token issued by the Canadian Pacific Railway Co (CP / CPR), struck in brass with a high copper concentration, and bearing employee number on the reverse. This identification cheque was likely issued by the wages office on a Thursday, prior to the Friday payday. It would then be exchanged for a payslip, and the wages then paid on signature. This is the only CPR example that we have been able to trace, with most being issued by British railroads, and some by their American counterparts. A rare and exciting piece of Canadian railway history.
