France 1860 A Gold 5 Franc - NGC XF
Offered is a charming 5 Franc gold coin issued in 1860, under the reign of Napoleon III, KM#787.1. These interesting pieces are much trickier to come by than one might expect, owing to their being first heavily circulated, and then melted en masse during the period of the subsequent republic.
This example, struck in .900 AU, has an AGW of .0471oz, and retains lovely detail. Clean fields and only very light wear will allow for the accommodation of the extremely slight bend (an endemic issue with these thin circulation coins) noted in NGC’s XF details notation. All in all, a very pleasing example of a popular type.
