Mamluk Sultinate 658-76 (1260-77) Silver Dirham
Offered is a scarce ‘heraldic lion’ type silver Dirham, struck at Cairo under the Mamluk Sultinate in 658-76 (1260-77AD), Mitchiner#1160-1. Other than being a difficult, sought type, this example benefits from a particularly good strike for the issue, with virtually the entire lion being visible (much like with Athenian ‘Owls,’ the lion is used on these as the quality diagnostic). A fascinating and attractive piece.
