Charles I Contemporary Counterfeit Halfcrown c. 1645, Ex Brooker

Offered is a supremely attractive Civil War period contemporary counterfeit 1/2 Crown (ca. 1645). Great detail and a lovely, even patina which darkens towards the devices make this a choice eye-appeal example. This coin also benefits from a superb pedigree, appearing as lot 1189 in the famed Brooker collection sale of 1984. Here, it is noted that the piece is struck in base silver, and shares dies with an example housed in the equally famed Baldwins forgery cabinet. All in all, a great piece of English history.
