Victoria 1895 Contemporary Counterfeit Crown

$45.00
sold out

Offered is a most unusual circulating counterfeit of the Victorian ‘Old Bust’ Crown, KM#783. This example appears to have been struck with reverse transfer dies, in a collar with crude renditions of the expected edge lettering. The coin appears to have been struck in debased silver, and represents a sophisticated fake for the period - it was in fact so convincing that it shows some genuine circulation wear. Much more frequently encountered are contemporary Halfcrown, Florin and Shilling counterfeits (this is, in fact the first full Crown of this nature that we have handled), making this a must-have for the specialized collector, or for the ‘black cabinet’ of any UK coin enthusiast.
