Vintage 1960s Citizen 4H Alarm Wristwatch

$300.00
sold out

Offered is a gorgeous, all-original early 1960s Citizen Alarm Parashock men’s wristwatch. Being Citizen’s top of the line when new, this piece was originally intended to compete with the likes of Longines, but saw little commercial success outside of Japan. As a result, today, these pieces are highly sought after, enjoying a substantial specialised following.

What makes this example particularly remarkable is the superb overall condition, with only a small, superficial crack in the original crystal, as well as some scratches on the caseback being worthy of note. Otherwise, this watch is in immaculate aesthetic condition, with little to no wear to the gold plating, and an as-new original dial. This fantastic visual appearance is really set off by the enormous size of this watch (for the period), coming in at 36mm in diameter, and 43mm lug to lug, making it a most impressive piece on wrist.

The 17-jewel mechanical movement is clean, working, and keeping good time. The alarm sets and activates, but does not ring out - an indication that it will need a new click spring for the alarm, and a consideration for which we have discounted our asking price.

All in all, a rare and very attractive piece of Japanese horological design.
