Offered is an extremely unusual cover, sent in 1986 from Bradford to Chandler’s Ford, bearing 12p & unofficially bisected 2p Machin definitives, SGX850, X896. Although bearing a pencil annotation reading ‘no 1p stamps available,’ the letter was flagged for (1p+10p surcharge) postage due, and thusly stamped with maroon PD box. Although such attempts are frequently encountered with stamps of the Wilding series, this is the first Machin bisect cover that we have handled, and indeed this appears to be a late, genuine postal use example.
