George VI 1951 Penny - NGC MS65RB

$150.00

Offered is a choice example of the famed 1951 key-date Penny, KM#869. As demand for the denomination waned in the post-war years with the rise of the brass 3d, mintages dropped in the early 1950s to near ‘token’ levels. When it was announced that only 120 000 Pennies would be issued in 1951, and that most of this mintage would be sent to the West Indies (as had the 1950s), a number of dealers traveled there, where they offered as much as £1 each for red-brown examples.

Today, these regular currency issues are both scarce and eagerly sought by collectors in higher grades, with this one very much fitting that bill. Graded by NGC as MS-65RB, this wonderfully struck specimen would make a great addition to any collection!
