Victoria 1881 Silver Gothic Florin, XXRI Variety
Offered is an 1881 2/-, or Florin, struck in .925AR, and issued under the reign of Queen Victoria, KM#746.4. Interestingly, this example also bears a detached lower stroke on the third ‘X’ in the roman numeral date, which is described in Krause as the ‘XXRI’ error. Elsewhere, this variety is identified as ‘XXXI’ over ‘XXRI’ - an attribution that we find more convincing.
With a lovely, soft, original gunmetal patina which displays an overall lilac hue, this remarkably problem-free example really showcases this popular variant. A very attractive, affordable example.
