Canada Ca. 1885 Trans-Canada Railway Love Token
Offered is an absolutely lovely ‘love token’ or folk art landscape pictorial which makes use of a type OC1 (1876H, 1881H, 1882H, 1884) Canadian large Cent. This very unusual piece depicts a rail line and telegraph poles / wires, all set against a mountainous backdrop. In the foreground are tools generally associated with the railway, namely a pair of hook spanners (one of which has a pick head) as well as a ‘pincher’ or crimp-tool. At right, the piece appears to be signed ‘GD.’ All in all a fascinating piece of history which is likely a souvenir of the construction of the Trans-Canada Railway.
