Belgium 1856 Commemorative 5 Centimes
Offered is a ‘pattern’ 5 Centime coin issued in 1856 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reign of Leopold I, KM#X4. Although these have been referred to as medals and patterns, there is strong evidence suggesting that they actually circulated freely along side regular issue coinage, but that they were quickly saved by the general public as mementos.
This example is fully struck, and has developed an even chocolate patina, which drapes clean fields and devices free from even cabinet friction. A choice BN example.
