Offered is a 13mm billon Dinero, minted in Messina under the reign of John II of Aragon for use in his Sicilian domains, Varesi#233, Spahr#124. The obverse depicts the arms of Aragon and cross with inscription ‘SICILIE : REX,’ while the reverse features an eagle surrounded by the inscription ‘+ JOHANNES : DEI.’ These crudely-struck minors are generally found in lower grades, with this example bearing a good obverse, and retaining enough of the inscriptions to allow for identification.
