France 1644 A Silver 1/24 Ecu
Offered is an exceedingly scarce, 2-year type, 15mm, 1.15g silver 1/24 Ecu, issued under the reign of King Louis XIV, KM#154, DR#1467, Cianti#1839. Although of diminutive size, this piece is substantial in terms of rarity and its fascinating historical context - being a failed experiment in standard silver small-change issues aimed at stabilizing a monetary system which was then largely based on large sacks of low-grade billon coinage. Today, very few examples of this type survive, and it must be said that although this piece bears some minor faults, it remains in well above average condition among its cohorts. Truly a lovely piece for the discerning collector.
