France 1661/0 Silver 1/12 Ecu (Aix)
Offered is an interesting 1/12 Ecu, or 10 Sol piece, struck at Aix (identifiable by the privy mark of Jacques Cabassol), and issued under the reign of Kind Louis XIV, KM#199.14. What sets this example apart is the prominent overdate (1/0) - an unlisted variety of which we have been unable to trace any additional examples - it would seem that the re-used die failed quite early on in 1661.
Other than a planchet flaw at 11, this coin retains good detail, as some pleasing tone, which intensifies in the inscriptions. In all, a great, specialized piece.
