France 1740 SIlver Jetton - The Assembly of the Clergy
Offered is an appealing, 11g, 30mm silver jetton issued on the occasion of the Assembly of the Clergy held in 1740, Feuradent#3964. The Assembly of the Clergy was one of the 3 Estates-General (representative bodies which communicated with the king). Jettons were a common gift of attendance for meetings of the estates, which at times happened rarely. This example lightly worn with some typical weakness of strike to the obverse, but otherwise most appealing, retaining a lovely violet-grey patina.
