Australia - 1976 Royal Sydney Anniversary Regatta Silver Medal
Offered is a rare and appealing 68g, 51mm award medal from the 1976 Royal Anniversary Regatta (now the Australia Day Regatta) sailing competition. This impressive piece depicts a Sydney harbour scene, date 1836 in exergue, inscription ‘ANNIVERSARY REGATTA,’ also bearing a four line inscription “140th ROYAL SYDNEY ANNIVERSARY REGATTA 26.1.76" within wreath. Although the medal is not marked for silver, it has tested as .925AR, and was likely struck by Amoy.
Superb detail in the design is complimented by ochre, mauve, and lilac tones which dance across the fields. Awarded in extremely small quantities, all pre-1997 Anniversary Regatta medals are rare, with silver examples being next to unattainable. In all, a fantastic piece of Australian, maritime, and yachting history, as well as a gorgeous medal.
