Britain - 1820s Thomason Strike of Henry II by Dassier
Offered is a ca. 1820-30 White metal 41mm medal, with obverse designed by Jean Dassier of Geneva, and struck by Sir Edward Thomason (Birmingham) commemorating the reign of King Henry II (BHM1437; Eimler1236 [both refs for the set]). The obverse of this piece was used in a set issued first in 1731. Dies were later bought by Thomason in the 1820s paired with new reverses giving important events of the reign. Crude cast copies of both sets in highly debased brass exist. This example with great detail, and much remaining luster.

Inscription: BORN 1133. CROWNED 1154. DIED 1189. / 1156 LONDON BRIDGE BUILT WITH WOOD 1176 BEGAN TO BUILD IT WITH STONE IT TOOK 33 YEARS 1177 GLASS WINDOWS FIRST USED IN PRIVATE HOUSES. Edge: Plain
