Canada - 1940s Silvered Amateur Athletic Union Medal by Birks
Offered is a very attractive, unawarded silver championship medal produced by Birks for the Amateur Athletic Union of Canada. This 46mm piece is in superb condition, with lustrous, frosty fields, as well as a delicate hint of yellow-ochre tone at the periphery.
This type was issued as early as the mid-1930s, and as late as the latter 1940s, with this example coming from the end of the contemporary use period. This piece displays interesting collar deterioration, as well evidence of certain design elements having been re-engraved to lengthen the life of the obverse die. All in all, a fascinating and well-designed medal.
