Saschen-Dresden 1627 (1972 EBV) Duality of Marriage Medal by Dadler

$150.00

Offered is a wonderful 43mm, 20g medal by Sebastian Dadler, representing the ‘Duality of Marriage,’ Maué 163; Feill 2446; Kahane 205; Więcek 36. Originally struck in 1627, this example is one of a very limited 1972 restrike by Ernst Breuel Verlag (EBV) from Hamburg in sterling silver. It is worth noting that at least 2 recent appearances of this medal at major auctions have been the EBV restrikes with hallmarks removed - a testament to how closely they resemble the originals (distinguishable by die cracks on the edges of the reverse).

Obv: SUSTINEMUR CONCORDIA (we are uplifted through harmony), young couple embracing; below, table with wine, game, and fruits.

Rev: DISCORDIA PESSUMIMUS (we are ruined through disharmony), old couple fighting; below, table with dog and cat fighting and broken jug.
