Venezuela - 1955 Odria Visit / Battle of Junin Silver Medal

$125.00

Offered is a substantial 49mm, 65.5g, .800AR high-relief medal issued in 1955 on the occasion of the visit of Peruvian leader Manuel Odria to Venezuela, and is emblazoned with a bust of General Manuel A. Odria facing three-quarters right, surrounded by inscription "RECUERDO DE SU VISITA A VENEZUELA / GENERAL MANUEL A. ODRIA." This trip coincided with the anniversary of the Battle of Junin, which is the main theme of the reverse, which depict mantled arms, surrounded by inscription "ANIVERSARIO DE LA BATALLA DE JUIN / CARACAS 6 DE AGOSTO DE 1955."

This piece bears striking devices set against darkened, textured fields - a technique which serves to further enhance the already striking devices. Very few examples (we were only able to trace 2 others) have come to market in the past decade or so, combined with a dearth of available information, leads us to believe that this is a rare medal. This example essentially as issued (other than a minor bruise at 5.30), and most appealing.
